Quadrivium

Bitar’s work generates feelings and questions that arise from the daily existence of an individual who lives in constant search: a life that, in its entirety, is complex, dynamic and sometimes dif cult to contextualize and understand completely.

As the exhibition’s title suggests, the artist tries to encapsulate in his work, in a restricted place, the crossroads of the everyday experienc- es that in uence who we are, regardless of the roads we choose to follow.

Quadrivium, from the Latin word meaning “crossroads”, refers to those signi cant mo- ments in life where we must pause to make decisions, which affect our destiny in an important way and lead us to live different experiences, whatever the decision made. Often, these experiences are lled with feelings that contrast between the dark and the light, the simple and the complex, the deep and the shallow, the eccentric and the sim- ple; just as Bitar’s works, are composed of paradoxes. However, eventually it all blends to form an aesthetic that is powerful and even poetic, like life itself, terribly beautiful.

On the other hand, from an existential point of view, we turn to the “String theory”, which replaces particles with one-dimensional objects that adopt this name. This theory describes how particles spread through the universe, interact with each other and make up everything. From a distance, strings look like particles, but when you get closer, they reveal their identity. In the same way, Bitar’s work contains these “strings” that interact with each other to make up the whole. From afar, they reveal an aesthetically perfect composition, but as you get closer, they show the coincidenc- es and casualties that form them, once again making a reference to our own lives. For the viewer, it will be inevitable to hold back the feelings of harmony, intrigue, mystery, order and apparent chaos that emanate from the show that is Quadrivium.
